Hi everyone. So happy to see you all again. Things here are chugging along. You may remember that I was thinking of changing jobs so that I could get away from the mandatory OT, leaving more time to dedicate to my real joy. Well, I left the job for a different facility, and ended up returning to my old job after a brief trial period. Sometimes the grass is NOT greener........ So, I will focus on enlarging my customer base where I work, for now. The OT is still unreal, but I have a built-in market. I'll do what I can do.

The brooder is waiting for a batch of Welsumer chicks that are in my friend's incubator. Egg sales are very good. I hope to add Spangled Russian Orloffs as well.

I adopted out the two old Belgian horses I had, but added a new Nigerian Dwarf buck kid. He's 2 months old, very flashy coloring, and a bottle baby. More like a puppy than a goat. He will be the new herdsire. I'm in the process of figuring out who will go in what shed, and how I'll set up a milking area. I'd like to separate the sheep from the goats, but we'll see.

Lettuce is up. Gasoline is on the list for my trip to town. I can hardly wait for the soil to dry out enough to run the tiller. I hope to plant peas this weekend, and prepare an area for potatoes. I had business cards printed and am working on a sign for out front. I may look for a small used fridge for out in the big shed, so I can sell eggs on the honor system, since I'm away from home so much. I bet I could sell clean bagged lettuce, etc., too.

I can almost see the grass greening up, but we're supposed to get snow showers tonight and temps in the low 30's. Take care, Daisy.

Hey hey hey!! Yes, it's been a long time since I posted anything, but I am back!

I finally quit the JOB FROM HELL. It's taken me a few months to recover, but I feel like I am going to be just fine! We had some serious flooding in my part of NY in June, so my garden was not so good. Plenty for me but not much to sell. I missed you all so much, and I am now in a position to be excited about the Garden Of 2007! I'm broke but I'm full of positivity! Sometimes you have to lose to gain.

I am up to 7 Nigerian Dwarf goats, and am in the process of buying 2 fullsize milk goats, a Nubian and a Nubian X Alpine. I have a trio of Bourbon Red turkeys and a pair of Blue Slate hens. My Welsumers are laying, and I have a breeding trio available for sale ($25). OK, so I am now going to shut up, and catch up on what you all did this year.

Welcome back HilltopDaisy,

Sounds like you will have a lot more time for the garden and your growing brood of animals.

Philip

Thank you Philip. I spent some time this morning looking at the Johnny's catalog. Great prices, lots of organic seeds available. I also have a great one from www.dixondalefarms.com , they sell onion sets. Haven't ordered from them yet, but I plan to for '07. We're getting light snow flurries today, so it's a perfect time to dream about planting! Actually, when isn't it a good time?
